The data centers asking Michigan’s utilities for power
16 large-load projects tracked across 10 counties, 12 of them still live. Between those live projects, 3.24 GW of disclosed demand, and 1.38 GW of it already under a contract the Public Service Commission has approved. Which utility would serve each one, what those contracts require, and which projects have been withdrawn — with the documents.
Michigan pays a higher rate — and a lower bill
Both are true at once, and quoting either alone is spin. Michigan’s price per kilowatt-hour runs above the national average, while the average monthly bill runs below it. The reconciliation is usage: Michigan homes mostly heat with gas and run little air conditioning.
